BAD BREAK FOR THE INDIANS – GAVIN FLOYD COULD BE OUT FOR SEASON

The Indians released the following news today on Twitter about right handed pitcher Gavin Floyd who they signed to a free agent contract this offseason:

 · Gavin Floyd has suffered a re-injury of the elbow stress fracture that ended his 2014 season and is he out indefinitely.

 · The club is currently exploring treatment options, which may include surgical intervention. A time table will be dictated off that path.

The 6’4 – 235 pound 32 year old right handed Floyd was signed with the hopes of being the Tribe’s number #3 this season behind Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco.

Here is the Indians official press release that followed their announcement of the injury to Floyd on Twitter:

MEDICAL UPDATE ON GAVIN FLOYD

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today announced RHP GAVIN FLOYD has suffered a re-injury of the elbow stress fracture that ended his 2014 season.

The Indians Medical Staff is currently in the process of gathering information on the best treatment option for Gavin, which may include another surgical fixation. When additional information on treatment options becomes available, it will be provided by the club.

The time frame for Floyd returning to action will be directly correlated with the course of treatment and will be updated at that time.  He is out for the foreseeable future.  Floyd suffered a stress fracture of the right olecranon in his right elbow last June 19 while pitching for the Atlanta Braves and underwent season-ending surgery on June 25 to stabilize the fracture.
