MVP KYRIE IRVING LEADS TEAM USA TO GOLD MEDAL
Add another MVP trophy and a gold medal to the hardware room at the Irving residence.
Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving put on another shooting clinic from long range in leading Team USA to a 129-92 win over Serbia in the gold medal game of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Championship.
Irving finished the contest with a game high 26 points and also dished out 4 assists in the victory. For his efforts Irving was named the tournament’s MVP. He averaged 12.1ppg and 3.5apg in the 9 game international tournament.
The Cavaliers 22 year old point guard who started for Team USA, went 10-13 from the field, including 6-6 from 3-point country. For the entire tournament Irving shot 56% from the field and an impressive 60% from beyond the arc to lead his team in that category as well as in assists.
Team USA went (9-0) and won by an average of 32.6ppg. Their closest contest was a 21 point win against Turkey 98-77 in game #2 of the tournament.
With the gold medal win, Team USA becomes just the third country to win consecutive FIBA World Cups in history and by doing so, they have earned the automatic bid into the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Team USA has now won 63 consecutive international games when you count FIBA contests and exhibition games leading up to the World Cup of the Olympics.
